One Simple Trick To Increase Your Protein At Breakfast

One thing I constantly find my female clients struggling with is getting enough protein throughout the day. Protein is a key macronutrient for weight loss and fat loss, so if protein is low results may suffer.

One of the big habits I preach to my clients is getting at least 30-40 grams of protein with each meal. The meal that tends to be most challenging for females is breakfast.

Recently, my wife discovered a simple trick that has allowed her to get 30g of protein each morning with ease. So, I asked her if she could write up a guest post and share it with you here.

Without further ado, take it away Candice!

Listen ladies I get it, the struggle is real. We’ve read the articles, seen the results, and maybe at times even felt the results.  I certainly know all the benefits of protein, including weight loss–I am married to a personal trainer for goodness-sakes!

But no matter how hard we try, going from 30 grams of protein (or less) in a day to 90+ is just hard. By the way, if you are interested in how protein can transform the way you lose weight check out Jarred’s article here.

In the past, my relationship with protein has been sub-par. I would increase it for a few days then stop. I’m not sure why but I would repeat this cycle over and over. Don’t worry though, I’ve learned from these experiences and I want you to as well.

I’ve learned if you are consistent with adding protein you will lose weight. I’ve also learned that it can be really hard for me to increase protein intake through meat. So instead of just eating more meat, I’m going to share with you one of my favorite protein hacks: protein powder coffee creamer.

coffee

I drink coffee every day. I’ve gotten until I can drink it black. I don’t need any creamer or sugar, but I must admit I love the occasional Venti Caramel Macchiatto from Starbucks. Yes it’s a guilty pleasure loaded with sugar and caffeine 🙂

Anyways, one day when I was considering how to include more protein at breakfast and it dawned on me: Use protein powder as a creamer! It was the perfect compromise between the black coffee and caramel macchiatto. The sweetness without the calories. The protein without the fullness.

The next morning I woke up very proud of my revelation, made my black coffee, added the protein on top, stirred it, and went to school. I got to work, began drinking my ingenious concoction and chunks of protein powder came out.

It was gross and literally made me gag. A complete fail. I decided to do a little research and finally found a YouTube video explaining how to avoid the protein chunks.

Step 1: Add 4 tbsp of water to coffee mug.

Step 2: Add 1 scoop of whey vanilla protein powder (Some people get creative and try chocolate or banana protein powder)

Step 3: Stir repeatedly

Step 4: Pour brewed coffee on top of protein mixture

Step 5: Drink and enjoy

The drink will actually have a frothy cappuccino-like top. It tastes and smells delicious! Beware: If you let the drink sit too long in a covered coffee mug, the protein will harden up.  So be sure to drink it within the next few minutes. Give this simple trick a try and let me know what you think!
