Nutritional Tips While Traveling

Nutrition seems to be the #1 struggle for people when attempting to lose weight. Rightly so. With all the sugar, fat, and other chemicals loaded into food these days it’s incredibly difficult to give that up for broccoli.

But once a change is made, the benefits are seen quickly. You notice you aren’t as hungry all the time, you feel better, and your clothes start fitting differently.

It’s crazy how food can do all these things and more. That’s the power of good nutrition.

The problem arises when you’re doing well, and all of a sudden you have to leave town for work. Traveling is often in direct competition with your nutritional wellbeing.

You are away from home and unfamiliar with your surroundings. You lose your routine, and all that hard work you put in can be hindered.

Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be this way. There are some strategies to utilize that can help you avoid this scenario.

I’ve always said if something is that important to you, you will find a way to get it done. If your ultimate goal is to fit into a certain piece of clothing you wore 3 years ago or to look good for your high school reunion, you will find a way to accomplish this no matter the obstacle.

It may not always be easy, but if it was it wouldn’t be worth it. With that in mind, I want to share a few travel tips with you. When you have to leave town, these will ensure you are staying on track and eating well.

1. Find a hotel room with a kitchen.

This may cost a little bit extra, but if you are serious about your results it’s worth it, especially if you plan to stay for an extended period of time.

By doing this, you can buy and cook your own food when you get to your destination. It will be like you never left home.

If you decide to do this, have a list of the items you want to buy when you go to the grocery store. This will make shopping easy.

The great thing about this option is you can cook with ingredients you know and prepare the food just how you like it. As far as traveling options go, this would be the best because you are in control of everything.

If this isn’t an option for you, the next strategy would be a close second.

2. Know what restaurants compliment your goals.

Some trips may last only a couple of days. If this is the case, you don’t need to invest in a kitchen. This option is also great if you have a business meeting at a local restaurant.

Before you leave, get on the internet and find out what restaurants are nearby your hotel. Almost all restaurants have a website these days. Find out what’s on their menu and associated nutritional information.

By doing this, you can know exactly what restaurants offer the best choices for your goal. You will know what dish you’ll be having before you walk in the door.

You can even plan what you’ll be eating for your entire trip. This leaves no stoned unturned, and provides a way to still see measurable progress.

3. Pack your lunch.

This tip is more helpful if you have a day trip planned. Say for instance, your child has an all day soccer tournament two hours away.

This is a likely time to cheat. Is it easier to pick up some fast food on the way? Sure, but will it be worth it? Not really.

In situations like this, pack a cooler. Load it with things like fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds. It will be much easier to eat these types of items.

Best of all, you avoid the cheat!

You see, traveling doesn’t have to be a nutritional nightmare. Unfortunately, many will see progress stalled by trips away from home.

But this same doesn’t have to be said for you. As I said before, you will always discover a way to achieve your goals if you want it bad enough. Don’t let something as avoidable as a travel nutrition be a hinderance.

Use one of these three options next time. They may cost a little extra, but they will save you a lot in the long run.
